From Quito

  • By bus
CARLOS ALBERTO ARAY:
Terminal Terrestre del Cumandá, telf: 2283-080
Schedule: every hour from 7:45 am until 10:30 pm.


REINA DEL CAMINO:
Terminal Terrestre del Cumandá, telf: 2572-673
Schedule: 8:00 am., 12:50 pm., 2:00 pm., 8:00 pm., 10:00 pm., 11:00 pm y 11:30 pm.

The trip takes about 7 to 8 hours and costs approximately $8.00 - $10.00 USD with Manta as a final destination.  Service is also offered directly to Puerto López and you can take a bus from there to Puerto Cayo.


  • By car:
If you are traveling by car, there are two options when leaving from Quito:
  1. Take the Panamericana Sur until Alóag.
  2. Take the Autopista Rumiñahui (Valle de los Chillos) until el Triángulo de San Rafael y then take the road to Sangolqui, then on to Amaguaña and Alóag.
To arrive in Alóag you should take the following route: Santo Domingo - El Carmen Chone - Tosagua - Rocafuerte - Manta - then on to Costanera or by taking Pacífico (E 15), which passes through Puerto Cayo.  The trip from Quito to Ayampe (south of Puerto Cayo) is approximately 7 hours.

To arrive in Sto. Domingo you can also take the highway via: Quevedo-Empalme-Portoviejo, and from there continue through Manta until you reach Jipijapa, then onto Puerto Cayo.  This road is in better condition and will save a bit of time.

From Guayaquil
  • By bus
By bus you should travel to Jipijapa and then onward to Puerto Cayo from there.  The buses you can use to get there are: Cooperativa Jipijapa, Reina del Camino, Coactur, and Ruta Portovejense. The trip costs approximately $3.00 USD and last approximately 3.5 hours.

There are buses that leave from Jipijapa bound for Puerto Cayo every half hour for $0.75 USD.

  • By car
Take Vía Colectora Montecristi-Nobel (E482), passing through Piedrahita, Isidro Ayora, and Pedro Carbo until you arrive in Jipijapa.  From there, take Vía Colectora Jipijapa to Puerto Cayo (E483).

Local Buses


There are various buses that travel along the coast from Mangralalto to Manta that pass through Puerto Cayo.  There are also frequent buses that go directly between Jipijapa and Puerto Cayo for $0.75 USD.
